Mohamed Abdulrahman Al-Bahar is the Official Caterpillar (CAT) Dealer for CAT Power Systems in Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, and Oman. In Oman Al-Bahar delivered a power facility with eleven 3512B CAT diesel generator sets. The eleven gensets provide a total power of 16.5 MW to the central processing facility (CPF) of Khazzan gas field.
Terberg Control Systems supplied the control solution to control the eleven generator sets that are divided in three separate power houses. Each genset has a control panel that operates and protects the genset. The engine will run based on the start and stop load which can be set in the controls. If one genset fails, another genset will start automatically based on the running hours and the set priority. Each power house has a Master control panel that has the provision to synchronize all generator sets and also has load management function to retain only required number of gensets. When the available genset power connected to the bus is less than the actual load, the Master control panel will manage to disconnect feeders by the load shedding functionality.
The power is used for a camp facility, at the gas field, for almost 4000 employees. They process one billion cubic feet of natural gas per day from the Khazzan gas field. Khazzan, owned by BP, is the largest new upstream gas project in central Oman dessert. And Terberg Control Systems is right atthe heart of it.
